Clobetasol Propionate is a highly potent topical steroid. It has both local anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activity. The major effect of Clobetasol Propionate on skin is a non-specific anti-inflammatory response, partially due to vasoconstriction and decrease in collagen synthesis. Clobetasol reduces the formation of prostaglandins and leucotrienes in the local tissues and also reduces the number of human leukocyte antigen & also inhibits phospholipase A₂ activity via formation of lipocortin.
Clobetasol Propionate inhibits the adherence of neutrophils and monocyte-macrophages to the capillary endothelial cells of inflammed area. Clobetasol also blocks the effect of macrophage-migration-inhibitory factor and decreases the activation of plasminogen to plasmin.
